Website X5 Ease of use/user experience

Unlike other cloud based systems that provide an online website builder, Website X5 comes in a downloadable software bundle that is installed on your PC. Setup and installation is extremely easy after purchase if you follow the steps to install and configure the program.

Each of the available bundles has a demo version that allows you to try it before you make a purchase, which makes it easier to know which version is right for you.

You’re not able to view your website in real-time which make it a little more difficult to know if everything you’re plugging in will look right. You’re forced to go out of build mode and into preview mode which is just a few clicks – that does however slow down the experience a little.

On the upside, your drag-and-drop interface is simple and previews are updated in real time. Lastly, the software comes with very straightforward tools for uploading content via FTP or direct to Website X5 hosting.

Features

For a software bundle that markets itself as being able to set up a website in 5 steps, there are a surprising number of value-added features to help you create everything from very basic sites to somewhat more complex sites.

Media galleries provide you with royalty-free photos for use in Flash and JavaScript galleries, or you can add your own. There’s also the opportunity to video from YouTube as well as other online video sites. This includes adding audio and flash animations.

Built in blog functionality lets you add posts either as a side addition or a site completely dedicated to blogging (blogs on main page). The blog configuration comes complete with podcast and video capabilities as well as a complete RSS feed to help you promote and share your content.

For more web-savvy users and business owners who want to do more there are also built in search engine optimization options, as well as tools to set up an online store and accept PayPal payments for selling goods online.

For information-based websites or those users seeking ad revenue there are also tools to implement banner advertisements in and around your content.

Pricing

Website X5 is available as a direct software package in 3 different versions.

Website X5 Home is the most basic version for $19.99 and includes unlimited projects, 200 graphic templates, FTP access and multimedia.

Website X5 Evolution is priced at $75.00 and provides everything from the home version as well as eCommerce, SEO, hosting, responsive site design and a more advanced control panel for managing online components. There are also 800 additional templates added.

Website X5 Professional is priced at $199.00 and on top of the previous packages you receive more advanced eCommerce access, basic analytics tools, premium responsive websites, a premium online control panel and access to a mobile app.

The only downside of the pricing structure is the home version offers significantly less than the other versions and isn’t ideal for a business user at all. The professional version seems to be a bit much on the price jump given the features are almost identical other than offering a few more options. It would have been nice to see a smaller division such as a Home user price and a Business user price.

Templates

Website X5 comes packed ready with up to 1000 templates. The templates are all impressively well-designed and fit into a range of industries. Over 800 templates are designed to be responsive and fit for mobile-device viewing.

It’s also nice to see that each of the templates can be fully customized to provide a more personalized experience be it for a personal website or for a branded business. Each template has been fully tested across a wide range of browsers and devices to ensure maximum compatibility no matter what visitors use to find your site.

E-Commerce Functionality

You don’t get a vast array of options compared to leading eCommerce platforms. However, for a secondary add-on within the software bundle there are plenty of features to help you get an online store up and running. That includes order management, discounts and coupons, email follow up for customers, shipping and payment method setup with PayPal.

Conclusion

You can use the software bundle to create anything from a blog to a fully-functional online store. Website X is best suited for beginners who may upgrade to a more complex site at a later date, but for getting started it’s a great looking website that’s online in a flash.
