How to Choose the Best Pricing Plans for GoDaddy Website Building

If you’ve ever considered buying a website domain name, you’ve probably heard of GoDaddy; it is, after all, the largest domain name registrar in the world. What you may not have heard, however, is that GoDaddy also offers website building services, the likes of which rival top brands like Wix, Weebly, and SiteBuilder.

Like the other best website builders, GoDaddy offers a number of pricing plans to suit the varying needs of website owners. Here we’ll take an in-depth look at GoDaddy’s various plans, and how you can choose which one is best for you.

GoDaddy Website Building Options

GoDaddy offers 3 broad website building options:

  1. GoCentral: Comparable to Wix and Weebly website building, GoCentral allows users to build their own sites using pre-existing templates, and is meant for users who don’t necessarily have technical or design experience. Within GoCentral, there are 4 different pricing plans, which we will explain below.

  2. Wordpress Websites: This option directs you to pre-built Wordpress sites, but your payments are made to GoDaddy and you receive a host of other services from the company as well. This is recommended for developers or users with previous web design experience.

  3. Professional Web Services: With this option, you can request a call from a GoDaddy representative and have a professional designer build your website for you. Needless to say, this is the easiest option, but it’s also the most expensive. Prices vary depending on your exact needs and specifications.

GoCentral Pricing Plans

We’re going to focus on GoCentral’s pricing plans, since these are the DIY website building plans offered directly by GoDaddy. All of GoCentral’s plans come with a free trial, but once your free trial is over, you must start paying for GoDaddy website services, or stop using your site.

Below we’ll review GoCentral’s 4 pricing plans: Personal, Business, Business Plus, and Online Store.

Save up to 16% with GoDaddy’s annual pricing

This is GoDaddy’s most basic plan; it costs $5.99/month for an annual subscription ($71.88/year) and includes responsive mobile design, website hosting, rapid page-load performance, and 24/7 support. The Personal Plan is a good option for anyone who wants a website to promote their ideas, writing, or services; people that need selling options will do better with GoDaddy’s more-inclusive plans.

The Business Plan comes with everything that the Personal Plan has, with the addition of a PayPal Buy Now or Donate button, SSL security, and SEO. The Business Plan costs $9.99/month for an annual subscription ($119.88/year), and it’s a good option for small business owners who want to create an online presence for their business but not necessarily sell anything online.

Business Plus

Business Plus is the most popular GoCentral plan; it’s great for people who want to attract more customers and book appointments online. This plan builds on the regular Business option and offers additional features such as email marketing, social media integration, and sharing content to Facebook. Business Plus also offers the following online appointment features: accepting credit cards via Square, text & email notifications for you and your customers, two-way calendar syncing, and client management tools. Business Plus costs $14.99/month for an annual subscription ($179.88/year).

Online Store

This is both the most expensive and the most inclusive GoCentral option; in other words, it’s the ideal package for business owners who want to sell their products online. In addition to all the features of Business Plus, the Online Store option also includes a full-featured online store with fast checkout, acceptance of payments through credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay and more, management of products, inventory, and orders, configuration of shipping and tax rates, discounts and promotion offers, product reviews, social referrals, abandoned cart recovery, and text notifications when orders are placed.

In the table below you can see which features are included in each GoCentral plan.

Which Plan Should You Choose?

The plan you choose depends on your individual needs. If you don’t have a business and simply want to build a website, the Personal Plan gives you everything you need. Note that GoDaddy does not offer a free plan.

If you’re a business owner, the next 3 options from GoDaddy are suitable. If you simply want an online presence for your business, the Business Plan should be sufficient. If you offer services and want clients to book appointments online, Business Plus is the better option. And if you want to go all out and sell your products online under your own domain, Online Store is your best choice.

Annual vs. Monthly Payments

As with most website builders, when you buy a yearly plan with GoDaddy, you end up paying less than if you opt for monthly billing. The only upside is that GoDaddy’s month-by-month fee is not significantly higher than the yearly fee.

Below you can see how paying monthly compares to paying one lump sum for a yearly rate.

Note that the Online Store price is the same whether you order a monthly or yearly subscription; whatever you choose, you can cancel at any time. However, with the other options, you can see that the yearly cost of buying an annual subscription is about $10-35 less than if you would pay month-by-month for 1 year. (With other website builders, the difference between yearly subscriptions and monthly billing is much larger; see below for our comparison of GoDaddy to its competitors.)

Should You Choose Monthly Billing or an Annual Subscription?

The benefit of ordering an annual subscription is clear: Better prices. The downside of ordering an annual subscription is that you are taking a risk; will your website remain operational for at least 1 year? If not, you can lose money. Of course, if you’re betting on yourself and on your business, 1 year is not that long of an investment.

Another downside to ordering an annual subscription is that, while you are saving in the long run, in the short-run, you will be billed 1 large lump sum, as opposed to being billed a smaller monthly sum. For example, if you order an annual subscription for a Personal Plan, you will be billed $71.88 in one go, as opposed to being billed $6.99 each month.

The choice you make really depends on your personal preferences, the state of your finances, and how seriously you plan on taking your website.

GoDaddy’s monthly pricing

GoDaddy Pricing vs. Competitors’ Pricing

Now let’s take a look how GoDaddy’s GoCentral pricing plans compare to similar plans of top competitors: Weebly, Wix, and Site Builder. Weebly and Wix offer free plans, but they don’t come along with many features. For our purposes, we’ll compare the paid plans that each of these website builders offer.

GoDaddy vs. Weebly

Weebly offers 4 plans that are similar to GoDaddy’s options: Starter, Pro, Business, and Performance. Weebly's packages are significantly more expensive than GoDaddy's, both in terms of annual subscriptions and month-to-month billing.

Also, Weebly’s monthly billing cost is significantly higher than its annual subscription.

GoDaddy vs. Wix

In addition to its free plan, Wix has 5 paid plans : Connect Domain, Combo, Unlimited, Ecommerce, and VIP. Connect Domain is a truly basic plan, so we’ll take a look at the 4 plans that are most comparable to GoDaddy’s plans.

Not only are Wix’s plans more expensive than GoDaddy’s, but Wix also surprises you at checkout with an additional VAT payment.

SiteBuilder offers 3 paid plans : Pro, Premium, and Ecommerce. The plans are comparable to GoDaddy’s Personal, Business, and Online Store (no Business Plus comparable plan). The only SiteBuilder plan that is less expensive than GoDaddy is Online Store Ecommerce—but GoDaddy’s package offers more comprehensive services.

SiteBuilder’s listed prices also exclude VAT, which is tacked on only when you are ready to complete your payment.

Bottom Line

GoDaddy offers great value for its GoCentral website building plans; in fact, GoDaddy’s prices beat out many of its top competitors that offer similar plans, both in terms of annual subscriptions and monthly billing. At the same time that GoDaddy offers competitive pricing, its website building plans come with comprehensive features and services, all of which are backed by 24/7 support and GoDaddy’s reputation for excellence.
